Baseball

Charlotte PAL Knights baseball promotes leadership, citizenship and fair play in conjunction with the Cal Ripken program “Badges for Baseball.” Badges for Baseball program allows law enforcement officers to participate with youth through baseball. The PAL Knights baseball program is open to ages 4-14. There are 7 PAL Knights teams which are represented in three distinct leagues: Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth leagues. All teams were named the “Knights”, which is the local Triple A- affiliate’s team name. The Ripken family was once members of the organization, when they were known as the “Charlotte O’s.” PAL Knights host several baseball clinics, which are open to all who have an interest in baseball.

Requirements:
PAL requires copies of the participant's birth certificate, last report card, annual PAL fee and PAL New Member Registration Form. Youth with a GPA below 2.0 are required to attend tutoring in order to be eligible for competition. Certified teachers provide several tutoring sessions during the week at our PAL facility. Youth will be required to complete the Cal Ripken “Badges for Baseball” curriculum. The main component is the Healthy Choices, Healthy Living program, which focuses on developing sound character and vital life skills.

Coaches:
All coaches must pass a strict criminal background check and provide references before they can volunteer as coach. All coaches are Cal Ripken coaches certified, which teaches the fundamentals of coaching, how to create practice lesson plans, how to manage a game and the team. Baseball coaching staff includes several former minor and major league players and former PAL members, who come back to prepare the next generation.

Registration begins Feb 1, 2011.
Registration Cost: $50.00 per calendar year
